Kristina Grozeva and Petar Valchanov's film "THE FATHER" started as a project at Sofia Meetings and now it won Crystal Globe Award for Best Film at Karlovy Vary 2019

The newest film "THE FATHER" by the directing duo Kristina Grozeva and Petar Valchanov, presented as a project at SOFIA MEETINGS, was awarded the most prestigious award - Crystal Globe Award for Best Film at the 54th International Film Festival Karlovy Vary.

The film is a co-production between Bulgaria and Greece and won the distinction of competing with 11 more films in the main competition program.
This is a great success for the Bulgarian cinema and yet another proof of the creative potential of the two talented authors!

For 16 years Sofia Meetings has provided an opportunity for the launch and development of new Bulgarian projects, which find their co-producers and are selected for their world premieres at this prestigious Bulgarian film market.

The debut film of Kristina Grozeva and Petar Valchanov's "The Lesson", as well as their second film "Glory", which won international recognition and awards from dozens of film festivals around the world, also got their start at Sofia Meetings.

"The Lesson" was awarded as the best film in the competition program of the 19th Sofia Film Fest in 2015, receiving "Sofia City of Film Grand Prix" Award, as well as the Audience Award, the prize for the best Bulgarian feature film in the festival program and FIPRESCI Prize, and "Glory" was was named Best Balkan Film and awarded with the Critics Guild Award at the SBFD at the 21st Sofia Film Fest in 2017. In 2008, Peter Valchanov received the Jameson Award for Best Bulgarian Short Film for "Family Therapy".
