“GODLESS” by Ralitza Petrova – triumph at Locarno!

Bulgarian film won Pardo d’oro Award and three more prizes

Awards ceremony was held today at the 69-th Festival del film Locarno - International Film Festival LOCARNO

For the first time Bulgarian film was presented with the Grand Prize of  Festival and the City of Locarno – “Pardo d’oro” - GODLESS” (Bulgaria-Denmark-France) by Ralitza Petrova. The film, produced by “KLAS Film”, Snowglobe, Alcatraz Films and Film Factory, won also “Pardo per la miglior interpretazione femminile” – the prize for Best actress went to Irena IVANOVA. Ecumenical Prize, offered by the Reformed Church and the Catholic Church of Switzerland, and is committed for the film’s distribution of the movie in Switzerland, was also awarded to “GODLESS”, as well as the prize of the Independent Critics„Boccalinod’Oro”for Best Director!

Three of the films in the International Competition at Locarno were projects, presented at SOFIA MEETINGSRalitza Petrova’s debut “GODLESS”, “GLORY” by Kristina Grozeva and Petar Valchanov and the newest Radu Jude’s film „Scarred Hearts”.

The Special Jury Award - Premio speciale della giuria, Prize of the Cities of Ascona and Losone, was presented to Radu Jude. His film was awarded also with the Don Quijote Prize of the FICC/IFFS (International Federation of Film Societies). The same jury awarded with Special Mention “SLAVA” (GLORY) by Kristina Grozeva, Petar Valchanov.

Powered by an energy that brooks no borders,  the Concorso internazionale at LOCARNO presented 17 films that blow in from Japan to Portugal, from Bulgaria to Thailand. Seventeen films and as many world premieres of which eight are directed by women. Seventeen different visions competing for the  Pardo d’oro – and it was won by BULGARIAN  FILM!
