17th Sofia Meetings' Works in Progress - ONLINE

The 17th edition of Sofia Meetings' Works in Progress will be held online from 27th May till 31st May at Festival Scope.

New films directed by promising European names are in the selection: Kamen Kalev, George Ovashvili, Andrey Paounov, Alexander Hant, Tonislav Hristov, Valentin Hotea, Drago Sholev, Pavel Vesnakov, Svetoslav Draganov to name but a few. The full selection can be found on our website HERE!

Some of the films from the 2019 edition Works in Progress traveled the cinema world with great success: “Solo” by Artemio Benki (Cannes, ACID 2019), “Cat in the Wall” by Mina Mileva and Vesela Kazakova (Locarno 2019), “Cook, F**k, Kill” by Mira Fornay (Black Nights IFF Tallinn 2019), “The Father” by Kristina Grozeva and Petar Valchanov (Karlovy Vary IFF, Crystal Globe 2019), “Sister” by Svetla Tsotsorkova (San Sebastian IFF 2019, Special Mention), “Rounds” by Stephan Komandarev (Sarajevo 2019 - Heart of Sarajevo for Best Actress, goEast Wiesbaden - Golden Lili for Best film), “The Barefoot Emperor” by Peter Brosens and Jessica Woodworth, “Nocturnal” by Nathalie Biancheri, “Pig” by Dragomir Sholev, “A Picture with Yuki” by Luchezar Avramov, “Open Door” by Florenc Papas (Sarajevo 2019, Thessaloniki 2019), “Omar and Us” by Maryna Er Gorbach, Mehmet Bahadir Er (Warsaw 2019 - Ecumenical Jury Award, Santa Cruz IFF 2020, Kolkata IFF 2019, Fantasporto 2020), and many more.

Sofia Meetings was planned to take place in March, but due to the COVID-19 we postponed it. May happens to be a great window for Works in Progress and will bring a record number of festival programmers, sales, distributors and potential co-producers to watch the new films.

Sofia Meetings is a professional event dedicated to the independent European film industry. It is a co-production market with a Works in Progress section which has a mission to increase the exposure of European films and talents and support promising European projects along with developing a space for networking within the A/V industry.

Sofia Meetings is supported by Creative Europe MEDIA programme of the European Union, Bulgarian National Film Center, Sofia Municipality and Ministry of Culture.
