REGULATIONS & PARTICIPATION

 

Who Can Participate

Industry activities are open to audiovisual professionals, including:

  • Producers
  • Directors
  • Sales agents
  • Distributors
  • Buyers
  • Investors
  • Festival programmers
  • Institutional representatives
  • Exhibitors
  • Investors
  • Scriptwriters, actors and all film professionals

The focus is on:

  • Emerging directors (1st–3rd feature films) for the projects in development and all filmmakers looking for market outreach – festival selection and sales/distribution for Works in Progress
  • Filmmakers seeking international co-production partners
  • Projects with strong artistic vision and international potential

 

Project Categories

 

  • Fiction Feature Films - first, second, or third feature fiction films in development or pre-production seeking co-production partners.
  • TV Series - Fiction series in development looking for partners and financing.
  • Projects based on Books
  • Immersive projects
  • Works in Progress - Feature films or creative documentaries (minimum 60 minutes) in late post-production or completed without an international premiere.
  • Project in Bank - Projects that do not participate in pitching sessions but are eligible for one-to-one meetings. Projects in Bank doesn’t need to be by emerging directors.

Submission Requirements

 

Feature Films & TV Series

Projects must include:

  • Logline
  • Synopsis
  • Treatment or script
  • Director’s statement
  • Budget
  • Financing plan
  • Director’s biography
Works in Progress
  • Rough cut or preview version/excerpt
  • Minimum running time: 60 minutes

All materials must be submitted by the official deadline.

 

General Conditions

Projects are selected based on:

  • Artistic merit
  • Feasibility and financing structure
  • Strength and experience of the creative team

Additional criteria:

  • Minimum length: 60 minutes
  • Intended for cinema distribution
  • International co-production potential
  • Maximum total budget: €6 million
  • At least partial development funding secured
  • Each project must have an attached director and producer
  • A production company may submit up to three projects

Applications are accepted worldwide.

 

Selected Projects
  • Completed films are expected to acknowledge Sofia Meetings in the credits.

Industry Accreditation
  • By invitations
  • By application

Accreditation grants access to:

  • Pitching sessions
  • Market screenings
  • One-to-one meetings
  • Industry programme and networking events
  • Transmedia/Immersive Hub

Required documents:

  • Professional CV
  • Company link or portfolio
  • Motivation statement

Accreditation fee: €50
Selected projects and invited professionals receive complimentary accreditation (CO2 contribution fee: €10).

 

Awards

Sofia Meetings presents industry awards supporting further development and post production and others.

These awards aim to help selected projects move toward completion and international release.
